United is currently selling open-jaw basic economy fares to: São Paulo & Santiago de Chile (Jul-May) as well as double open-jaws to Quito/São Paulo & Buenos Aires/São Paulo (Jan-May) for around £400. Connections in all East Coast United hubs, multiple & overnights are possible. Due to the intercontinental nature these fares include seat selection, carry-on & 2 hold luggage, unlike transcontinental basic economy fares. Anybody else booked these?
Low-tax departure airports: MAD, BRU, MUC, FRA, ZRH & MXP. Return to another one of them or: CDG, AMS, LHR. Fare class K earns around 10k both award/tier points with Aegean. 36k + 6 A3 segments confers Star Alliance Gold.
Since the Royal Jordanian adventure, it seems I’ve been infected with the mileage run bug. I’ve booked 3 aforementioned tickets (BRU-LHR) to a variety of destinations. Basically long weekends, unnecessarily extended to a full week due to the overnights at EWR, IAD, ORD & IAH.
Add a New Years’ & Summer weekend to Greece and the deal is sealed methinks.
