There’s two 1940 departures from LGW to MAD for the same price, which should I choose and why?
I understand they are essentially the same.
Express is akin to BAs Gatwick Flier – works to IB standards but lower paid staff.
It’s the same flight. I’d probably book on the IB code just to avoid any crediting issues (not that I know if there are any but I’m not too familiar with I2 flights)
It’s the same flight so book either, but anyway I’ve never noticed any difference between Iberia/Express.
Do not fly iberia express or iberia. seriously save your money and pay with a better airline. they do not even clean their aircraft!

Okay lol just double checked they definitely aren’t the same flight. One is from LGW and one is from LHR!
Iberia express flies from LGW. Iberia from LHR.
With Iberia express you get lounge and could get also avios and TPs just like an IB or BA flight (just see note below). Their food on board is not as good as Iberia (I have only flown them business in Spain and during breakfast time and it was a cold meal from what I remember).
Ib express is a mess for TPs. The same flight has a different price in Iberia express website, Iberia and ba’s! I understand it used to be that only if it had IB or BA code you will get TPs. I believe that’s not the case anymore and now even those booked as I2 get the avios and TPs.
The idea of I2 is simply to create a new company to save in salaries and pension plans etc. I fly them often and not much different to normal IB in economy.

I don’t think anyone really cares for a short flight and it’s not like there are better options for LGW–MAD.

Seems I can only find LHR-MAD and not any of the LGW-MAD flights unfortunately 🙁
They are there, put LGW-MAD as origin and destination and tomorrow’s 11am departure is available with a BA flight number.
