Just back from a Washington trip out in F and back in J and had very interesting chats with the Inflight Manager on both legs. They told me that the A380’s will go in for a refit to:
– relocate F upstairs to where the forward J cabin is at the moment to take advantage of the much nicer / bigger bathrooms and to make it easier to deplane F first as they have to attach the upper jet bridge first
– where First was will be PE
– replace current J seats with Club Suite
Unsure of timeframe as retrofitting all the 777 with club suite at the moment and would be committing to the A380 for longer term, but I think it would be good. Not flown an A380 for a couple of years and it reminded me what a great pax ex it is. Have to say the crew both ways were excellent and both flights were on time.
So much detail so likely crediblenews, and great news too. So love the a380. Probably helped along by the delays to the latest Boeing Dumbo. Thanks for sharing.
This rumour is definitely taking flight.
Will it be new F and how many seats 8 or 12 or 16?
Will upper deck economy remain?

Numbers will be dictated by door positions as much as anything. You could get the current 14 F seats in the space between D1 & D2 on the upper deck.
12 or 16 wouldn’t really work. 8 may still be too tight to fit a 2 row mini CS cabin.
If PE goes into old F space then I’d imagine remainder of top deck will be J.
If you look at Emirates, Qatar, Qantas & Korean they all have different F/J/Y locations on their A380’s so there’s no obvious optimum layout.
Didn’t get any definite info, but I was talking to the First Officer on my A380 flight to DUL three weeks ago. I was saying how nice it was to see the A380 back in service, but that I thought upstairs in Club was quieter than downstairs in F. He said the original decision to put F downstairs was made after consulting passengers. We also talked about the upstairs washrooms being more suitable for F.
I came back from BOS in CS, and I preferred CS to F on the A380.
The 380 is serving premium routes, and they really need to make F something special to make it worthwhile. The old F seats give you a lot of space, but most of it is wasted. We did buddy dining, but it’s not very comfortable and the table really isn’t big enough. You have to leave your space and enter the aisle to access the wardrobe. You can’t sleep curled up on your side facing the window cause there is no space for your knees. It needs a complete redesign.
I’ve only done First twice, on the 380 and on the 787, and I don’t find the seat great for sleeping. The bed does not go completely flat, the headrest remains slightly higher than the rest of the bed.
They need a complete rethink on the design of the First suite.
Let’s hope the A380 refurb comes up with a new product that makes upgrading from CS worthwhile.
