AA chances of airport upgrade

Hey all

I have a premium economy flight booked from LHR to LAX next week. It was booked by my travel agent. Upgrading now would be in excess of £6,000… what are the chances of getting a nice offer (with cash) at the airport when checking in? And I doubt one can upgrade with Avios then and there, right?

I’m not too sure how it works. I know that on short haul flights cash upgrades are possible and the price is generally reasonable but not too sure about long haul.

Forgot to say – it’s an AA operated flight but booked via BA. I think this was the best way for my agent to get a decent price to start with…
