I write this from the Mercure Holland House in Bristol where I have stayed 20 or 30 times over the last 5 years.
Was told on check in that the hotel had been told not to award points or status benefits for any booking not made with Accor directly.
Has anyone else heard this? Expedia, Hotels.com etc. Have always been excluded but Read & Mackay etc. Has never been a problem and continues to not be a problem with Hilton or Marriott…
That is clearly nonsense, since the whole point of the programme is to incentivise corporate travellers (who don’t pay their own bill and so are more easily bribed than personal travellers).
What may be true is:
a) your employer has moved to Egencia, which is Expedia-owned and which confuses some hotels about where the booking came from
b) your employer has done a deal to get lower rates in return for not receiving points
On the Egencia point, I can add that I made a booking for Swissotel Amsterdam a few weeks ago that was clearly marked “Hotel Points included”.
At the property they were not convinced and did not recognise this after I asked. But I claimed them online a few days later and it was not an issue; they posted very shortly afterwards.
Thanks both, will check the Egencia point.
Have just made a load of bookings for the 3 x 2 night stays for 6k points, but will cancel if the points don’t post.
Accor central loyalty were on non UK call centre just now and didn’t know either way
