Discuss today's stories:
Missed out on all the recent Avios availability to the Maldives next summer as waiting for 2-4-1 to appear in account after triggering. Somehow there were 4 (!) first class seats available for 15th August 2023 so booked 2 of these using my 2-4-1 voucher which appeared this morning finally. Now the struggle to get return flights (at least Premium Economy due to day flight coming back but ideally Club) for the first time doing it this way so question time:
1 – all the posts/stories I’ve read say a return flight can be added to an existing 2-4-1 outward booking by calling BA – can anyone confirm this is ok? Anything I should say to get the CSA to understand what I want to do? Unfortunately I don’t have enough Avios left to book online and then call.
2 – can I call the You First line given my outward booking is in first? Presuming this is the easiest line to call currently. Would any other number be better for waiting time or adding a return?
Just in a panic as by some miracle I’ve got the unicorn of first to Maldives outbound but nothing coming back so wanting to get return confirmed before I book a resort. Any help or advice is welcome
1 yes you just phone BA and say you have a reward reservation xxxxx (your PNR) booked using a BA companion voucher and want to add flights BAxxx to the reservation.
2 I believe YouFirst can handle this for you. If not they can transfer you to the Avios team.
I think You First only opens about 8am by which time the required seats might be long gone. There are lots of posts on this site about calling when the flights are released (1 am BST) and booking them as soon as they are loaded onto the system.
Cheers both – not too fussed about 1am call times and getting the released Club seats (wife would kill me!). Have a couple of dates in mind and will take Premium Economy if necessary which have sufficient availability on other (earlier) dates – counting 8 seats left in Premium in Aug 23 currently.
They’re all on different dates though – no guarantee of more than 2 being released (or even any at all, though there’s usually a minimum of 2 these days).
Update & new question – managed to add WTP for the return but next problem.
Looking in MMB, on the WTP return I cannot pay for seat selection (says cannot be selected until check in) and I have zero checked baggage allowance. The BA guy said the transaction needed to back office for sorting – will this eventually update on both items or should I be worried?
