Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Add SYD -> SIN to SIN -> LHR Redemption

  • 5 posts

    Hello.

I have a companion voucher redemption return trip from Heathrow to Singapore in Club World. It turns out that we will be in Sydney before the return leg. If I book a cash ticket from Sydney to Singapore on the same day as the return from Singapore to Heathrow, will that be ok? I know everyone has to get off the plane in Singapore but because it is a separate ticket, will I have to get my bag, or will they check it through all the way for me? Also, if I pay for premium economy, I presume when I get back on the flight in Singapore I will move up to club?

    Thanks.

Yes you will have to complete the usual processes such as collect your bags and recheck them in in line with BAs checkin deadlines.

It is BA policy not to interline bags between separate tickets.

Arrange your separate SYD-SIN flight accordingly.

If you’re suggesting using the BA SYD – SIN – LHR flight throughout on the same day I can’t see that working, unless it has an unusually long layover. By the time you’ve cleared immigration if necessary (not sure how SIN work in that respect when traveling on separate tickets) and retrieved your bags it would be too late to check in for the flight to LHR.

Depends how risk adverse you are. If the flight is on time you will have enough time to clear immigration, collect your bag and drop it back at BA.

If the flight is late though then it’s very possible the check in desks will have closed. However in this circumstance I’m pretty sure speaking to the ground staff airside would get you and your bag onto the flight.

(I believe you can actually ask them airside to go get your bag and retag it but to be honest if you’re on time I’d just go and do it myself, immigration is all automated now in and out, just fill in your elanding card, will not take long)

Amusingly you may be better off taking SQ who will send your bag to BA happily. However considering the value of your ticket onward to London I’d consider an overnight in SIN to cater for any disruption

You would need to check the timings and bear in mind the BA bag drop cut off time – likely to be 60 minutes before departure.

It has been known as we have had bags checked through from a completely-unrelated SQ flight but as said it is a risk if the check-in staff don’t accommodate the request.

You’d hope BA staff would employ common sense given both tickets are BA but that is probably the last airline that you would expect to do so!

Thanks for the info all. I thought it would be a straightforward answer, yes, they can check your bags straight through apparently not!

The SYD-SIN flight gets in at 21:00 and the one I’m currently booked on leaves at 23:20. So if everything goes perfectly to plan I expect there would be just enough time but I don’t think I will risk that so will get to Singapore via other means.

    Thanks again.

On the plus side, immigration at SIN is super-quick now with the electronic gates. The last few times we’ve been through within minutes of leaving the plane and bags were ready within a few minutes of arriving at the carousel.

As I’ve already written it’s BA policy not to interline on separate tickets.

That is the One World Policy (since 2016) and also followed by several OW airlines including AA and IB.
