Hi all…I’ve a question on tax!
I have a one way booking in Business for my wife and I from San Juan Puerto Rico to London via Madrid on Iberia. I used an Amex 2-4-1 to book it.
We’re now considering taking a cruise from San Juan in the new year and know I could add the flight over there as a return on my original booking.
My question is this: Would booking from London (still on Iberia) mean I have to pay the higher UK tax? Or does the fact that it’s a return mean the trip isn’t originating in the UK and reduce the tax charged as a result?
I know I have the option of just booking from Madrid, but no point of it’s not saving the tax.
Thanks a lot in advance to anyone who knows!
@Iainm – you still have to pay the long haul APD – it applies to all pax departing from the UK unless there’s a stopover of over 24 hours in Madrid.
Any flight originating in the UK attracts APD (with the exception of some remote Scottish airports and connections from a flight arriving into the UK)
That this will in effect be the return leg or a trip originating in Puerto Rick is neither here nor there. APD is payable.
