Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Adding return to Barclaycard voucher

  • 307 posts

Some info appreciated from those who know.

Booked MAN – HKG with Barclays upgrade voucher. BA agent proactively said call back to use second voucher (that I have ) when you want to book return and can add to booking, as of course a Barclaycard voucher cannot be used for a journey starting outside of the UK.

Thinking that I may return from SIN. But can I add the return from a different point than that of what would be the outbound ?

    Thanks

Confused. Do you mean you’ve booked this as a solo traveller? If so, then you can add your return with the other half of your upgrade voucher, but you can’t use a separate voucher to book a return leg from outside the UK, as you know anyway!

Yes you can do this as an open jaw as long as its within the distance rules, which HKG and SIN would be.

    Thanks Northernlass.

Sorry should have been clearer. 2 vouchers 2 passengers first voucher used for outbound. Understood rules as you describe. But agent did say call back to add return using second voucher (for both passengers). Hence my question. Has anyone successfully done this?

I think the agent may have advised you incorrectly. From the main thread on the BC voucher, the general consensus is that you are supposed to use both vouchers on the outbound, and then the 2nd half of the vouchers for the return. You do end up with 2 separate bookings, though. And it has to be booked over the phone, as you can’t seem to select two vouchers when booking online.

Yeah def looks to be advised incorrectly. But you, yourself stated correctly 2x of your flying out from UK only as per Barclayscards rules. So theres no way for you to use 2nd voucher for SIN-LHR as you arent leaving from UK? Call them back or I have lost you completely.

Thanks all. Looks like it’s all down to hopefully an helpful agent to cancel outbound, add return separately to each voucher. Fingers crossed.

I agree it sounds like the agent was wrong – and you can bet the next one you get would refuse to do it, even if it was technically possible. There’s nothing to stop you cancelling the flights, though and rebooking the bits you want.

@aq.1988 you definitely don’t need to phone to book the outbound, but you will have to make two bookings which isn’t ideal on the most popular routes. I don’t think phoning for the outbound is going to be quicker anyway as agent will need to complete two separate bookings. I have only found one report of getting 2 people on one booking reference with the vouchers (@TunnocksTeaCake in May 22).

Technique in quoted thread of simultaneous phone/online booking adds to the 1am stress but presumably gives maximum chance of securing 2 bookings on a “hen’s teeth” route.
