Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Admirals Lounge BA privileges

  • 4 posts

Currently sitting in Denver International Admirals lounge on a club world ticket, and the lounge are telling me that they no longer honour the old rule that BA silver and gold card members got free food and drinks in Admirals club lounges.

They say BA no longer pay for it so they don’t provide the privilege.

I may have missed a change to the rules through COVID – anyone know if this is the case across the network with AA lounges?

It seems that BA’s codeshare lounge partner in the US amounts to a cracker and some celery.

I don’t recall ever getting food pre-COVID, but you did used to get a couple of vouchers for nice drinks. That vanished at some point during COVID, though at that point you were pretty lucky to find an Admirals club lounge open. Doesn’t seem to have returned.

If you’re BA Gold or flying on an AA international flight in business or first (plus a few other special cases), at the bigger hubs you get Flagship Lounge access. That comes with free food and drink – https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/clubs/flagship-lounge.jsp . Doesn’t help if you’re on a BA flight without a suitable shiny card though

Self-serve snacks, breakfast cereals and complimentary drink vouchers aside, I’ve never had free food in any Admiral’s Club I’ve visited.

The lounge dragon is correct and, yes, some extras used to be available before covid

To be brutally honest, AA’s lounges are a dreadful joke, and BA should be ashamed to partner with them. Even in First, you don’t get food unless the airport has a Flagship lounge, most of which have been closed since the pandemic began.

If lounge access is important to you, book with Virgin/Delta instead. The Delta lounges offer a decent free buffet, although premium food and drink is still chargeable.

Or get an Amex Platinum. The Centurion lounges are decent.

Flown out of Austin on Club World tickets twice this year and Admirals Club there provided free food off the priced menu, and unlimited complimentary drinks.
Lounge needs refurbishment but staff very obliging.
