I’m looking for advice on several flights between London (flexible on LHR or LGW) and Toronto this summer. What would be the ideal use of points/vouchers to minimise cost in this scenario?
Between the two of us, my wife and I have ~700,000 avios and 4 Amex Companion Vouchers and 4 Barclays Upgrade Vouchers. Flights would be:
1) 2 adults (wife + me) + 2 children (3 + 6 years): LON-YYZ, ideally premium economy/WTP
2) 2 adults (wife + me): YYZ-LON, business/CW
3) 2 adults (Canadian grandparents; no avios/vouchers in their names) + 2 children (as above): YYZ-LON, ideally premium economy/WTP
4) 2 adults (grandparents): LON-YYZ, businss/CW
I’d guess something like
you and your wife on the companion voucher (return booking)
kids using the barclays vouchers (return booking)
grandparents out full price (one way) . back using a barclays voucher (one way)
obviously subject to availability – Toronto is very popular!
The other potential option is
Outbound – all 4 of you – 2 x companion vouchers
Inbound – you 1 x companion vouchers, 4 x full price for kids/grandparents
Grandparents home – barlcays vouchers
The reason being that the barclays vouchers don’t allow you to select anything other than the highest Avios value so may not be best value. You’d need to run the sums and see – also depends on what other plans you’d have for the vouchers as this approach wastes them a bit

I think there might be issues trying to book just a 3 and 6 year old using the upgrade vouchers? Even if their parents/grandparents are accompanying them (but on separate tickets)?
I think if you called they could book it and then “TCP link” (to complete party) the two PNRs

That’s useful to know, thanks.
