I have two [annual fee accruing] BA Amex’cards [Premium, on which I earned my companion voucher, and accelerated business].
The bonus points I have earned on both are now sat in my BA Executive Club account, alongside my companion voucher. The annual fee of £250 has just been added to my Premium account. As I no longer wish to pay any annual fees my intention is to open the free Amex BA Executive Club card and close my two existing cards, thus ensuring I have an Amex account when I come to redeem my companion voucher. Is it permissible for me to do this and retain my companion voucher, or do I risk losing the voucher?
I would be grateful for any advice.
You won’t lose the voucher. It was possible to downgrade your card from BAPP to the free one but a few people have reported that they’ve been told they can’t do that any more so you may need to close and reapply. You don’t actually need any Amex account though, if someone else lets you use their card.
