I’m looking to book SOU-MCO via DUB.
Booking direct in Business is £13,500. Booking through lastminute.com is £4,600. Its a massive difference and progressing to the step before booking on each website confirms exactly the same flights, allowances and services etc.
My concern is that lastminute.com try backtracking after booking. Does anyone have an experience?
I’m travelling with someone who needs special assistance however am assuming that the airline remains responsible for that?
Any thoughts greatly received.
That difference sounds too good to be true, but £13,500 is insane pricing for that route, are you sure that’s correct? When are you going? Have you looked at booking each leg separately – bearing in mind what the disadvantages of this are?
Normally it’s advised never to use OTAs here.
Its a booking for peak August. I wasn’t planning on going to the Mouse but things have changed.
I would not normally always book direct but used skyscanner to see what connection options opened up from London, and then tried Southampton too as its close to me. Just looking for airlines with two layflat beds next to each other as the disabled person travelling has both mobility and sight issues so the ‘carer’ needs to be next to them so most of the new suite options are not good.
Have you looked at Aer Lingus (or Virgin, not sure what the middle J seats are like?) from MAN? I might be wrong but I think there’s an LCC service between MAN and SOU these days?
SOU-DUB will be on Emerald obo EI; so the ATRs with 2-2 seating and miniscule cabin bag allowance. Considering the insult that the price already represents, to then start and end your journey on an Emerald flight would be a dealbreaker for me. Considering you have a mobility impaired traveller to consider, I’d strongly advise against this routing. No jet bridge and a narrow stairs for one to board the ATRs.
As for experience of OTAs being unable to honour a booking at the price asvertised; yes I’ve had this happen twice what I’d have considered the reputable ones. “Sorry we couldn’t complete your booking at the price quoted” yet they could hold onto my money for 3 weeks!
BWS: Thanks – the SOU-DUB leg is not as bad as it sounds and we’ve done that before. We know what our limits our with the mobility impaired traveller. Also if booking with EI, you can book through from SOU-MCO therefore get the Business allowances all the way through.
NL: Thanks – BA from LGW is preferred was unbelievable – the current sale helps.
Overall, if clearly does happen that OTAs will refuse to book the flight if its increased significantly, and that’s the chance I don’t want to take.
