We were due to fly LBJ-CGK on Air Asia this afternoon to connect to a JAL flight to Tokyo at 6.30 am tomorrow. Most flights out of the airport canceled today apparently due to some eruptions further east (I’ve had no notification from the airline or OTA). No chance of making tomorrow’s flight now so will be seeing if BA can switch our tickets to one of the evening flights once the London office opens shortly
I’ve spent £1600 booking us onto the only direct flights availabile for tomorrow afternoon in the hope of salvaging our 10 day trip to Japan but suspect I will need to spend more to rebook the Japan flights too
Is Air Asia covered under anything similar to EU261? If not, guessing all we can get back is the cost of the original flights unless our (HSBC Premier)insurance covers anything additional. Though if the reason is due to an eruption perhaps we may not get anything. Not the best of days 😣
I would contact HSBC/Aviva ASAP – there’s no 261 and this sort of thing should be covered on your policy as missed departure or travel disruption (two different sections), but you want to alert them to a potential claim and keep every shred of evidence, notes of calls and receipts. Much easier to collect now than after the event. Hope you get your trip back on track.
