Forums Other Destination advice Air Asia vs Scoot

I need to make a couple of 2hr or so flights in SE Asia (SIN-BKI and back)

Any thoughts on whether Scoot or Air Asia is better? Prices are pretty much the same, flight times may be slightly better on Scoot but it’s marginal.

Air Asia appears to offer online check in at BKI which might be helpful as we’ll be HBO.

    Thanks

Air Asia is comprised of several subsidiaries. I’ve used the Malaysian and Thai ones and – with the usual LCC caveats of being ready to buy the seat, food and luggage allowance you want – found them to be excellent. I’m not sure I’d fly on the Indonesian subsidiary.

Air Asia are at T4 at Changi but if you’re taking a taxi/Grab from the city then that is no inconvenience

Otherwise nothing between them really. Air Asia add ons used to be a bit cheaper especially the meals. Their Malaysian and Indonesian flights don’t serve alcohol if that matters

    Excellent – many thanks.

Also, does anyone know how Air Asia handle seating if you don’t pay to pre-allocate? Are they grade A idiots about it and will scatter you in middle seats across the plane (kids are all over 12 now) or will they make a vague attempt? Just booked BKI-SDK and paid almost as much for seat allocations as I did for the underlying ticket, which just feels kind of wrong on a 130 mile flight. OK so the basic fare was only $8.60 per person, but even so….
