I wondered what luck people have had with Avios/reasonable cash upgrades at the airport? My outbound to San Diego is in Club but return is currently PE.
Do they release further reward seats on the day if there are empty seats?
You can’t do an Avios upgrade at the airport. You can do it for cash and indeed BA has been especially keen on pushing these lately. Whether they can easily be done at outstations I don’t know.
BA has no fixed policy for whether it will release last minute seats. It does this on purpose – if you could be 90% sure that unsold Club seats would be dumped into Avios the day before departure, you wouldn’t buy a Club seat in the first place.

The return?The flight was booked on the auto upgrade tool U.K. executive club. So I booked PE and instantly upgraded the outbound but at the time there was no availability on the return leg.
If you paid cash PE for the return you should be able to upgrade up one cabin with avios. Another you may have to call but may not get through issue unfortunately.
Cash on the PE yes. Trying to avoid calling as it seems simply impossible to get through!
