Hi, hoping someone may have experience of this.
We’ve had to cancel a planned trip to London which was using my IHG Ambassador free night certificate. It expires on 1st August and we’ll definitely not be able to use it by then.
Anyone have experience of getting it extended please? How would I be best to go about that?
It’s definitely possible. Email the Ambassador office, state personal circs, lay it on thick about being a loyal member, etc, be prepared to grovel a bit!
No need to grovel or lay anything on thick.
Asking for an extension is perfectly allowed and is in one of the T&Cs.
But you’re only allowed a couple of extensions and the length of time is limited by how long you’ve been an AMB.
Check the T&Cs before calling so you’re aware of what’s available to you.

23. The Complimentary Weekend Night may be redeemed up until the expiry date of the Ambassador membership, or within the original expiry date of the Ambassador membership, if the membership has been extended. The Complimentary Weekend Night, cannot be extended and is redeemable once only in conjunction with a minimum two-night paid stay when booking the Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night’ rate at InterContinental Hotels & Resorts. It is not valid to be used on any other rates.
There is nothing to support extending 241 certs in the terms. You’re thinking of extending membership for 2/6 months (which by default doesn’t extend certificates) and which was removed from the amb terms last year.
Yes, no longer possible to extend amb certificates and membership.
So you may well need to grovel and lay it on thick, especially if you get a refusal on first asking, which has happened to me a couple of times!
Thanks all. Will send them an email over the weekend and I’ll report back on my success.
Had a response and it is positive!

While we’re unable to extend the certificate beyond your current Ambassador membership validity, I’m pleased to share some exclusive news — you’re eligible for a once-in-a-lifetime benefit to extend your Ambassador Status for an additional six months.
This extension typically does not include the Weekend Night Certificate; however, as a privileged one-time courtesy, we will gladly include it along with your membership extension.
Kindly confirm if you would like to proceed. Please note that once applied, the extension is irreversible, and we aim to make this process as seamless as possible for you.
I proceeded:
I’m pleased to inform you that your Ambassador membership and the Complimentary Weekend Night Certificate have both been extended for an additional six months — valid until 01 February 2026.
I took the offer and my Platinum status is extended to 31/12/2026, with the certificate now expiring 1st Feb 2026. So that seems an additional quirk in my favour that re-applying Platinum means I get it this and next calendar years.
I was in run off with IHG, and wouldn’t have hit Platinum this year, so this is a double bonus along with the certificate.
They are indeed! Thanks Anna.
See, my methods are sound!
