Anybody know how to find out when current subscription ends and how to renew? Can’t see anything in the app.
Thanks
StephenI don’t have the app, but on the web-site sign in and choose “earning summary” under the “current status” heading. At the bottom of the page it should show your “Ambassador until” date. You should start to see a link to renew Ambassador on the main page of your account about 2 months before it expires.
You will get an email when it’s time to renew.
I just did it and got 15000 points instantly, and it didn’t affect Diamond status, which was already at 31.12.24
Thanks both. Think my expiry is around Christmas so sounds like I need to wait for a bit.
Your Ambassador complimentary weekend night (look in rewards wallet) will have the same expiry date as your Ambassador membership.
Thanks both. Think my expiry is around Christmas so sounds like I need to wait for a bit.
Expiry is always the first day of the month.
You can renew upto 92 days in advance. Need to do it via web.
I signed up for ambassador on 13 October 2022. Heard nothing about renewal via email yet (considering 12m was yesterday!) but logging in, the website says I remain ambassador and to renew by 1 December? And my complimentary night voucher expires 30/11/23? Any ideas why this is over the 12m?
To confirm, renewal isn’t automatic? I can also see the 15,000 offer if renewal via cash.
Continued from post above…I have Diamond Elite to end of 2024 and intend to renew the ambassador.
I guess the 15,000 points (@0.4p = £60) isn’t bad off a 200USD (£164) renewal. I think it was £180ish with the bad exchange rate 12m ago. Is that renewal offer always there or something that could disappear?
If I renew now will I have 2 free weekend nights in my account or do I risk this renewal voucher superseding my existing one due to IT limitations etc.? Thanks!
I think membership runs to the month’s end, so you can get up to almost a full extra month (so join in Oct, you will get to the end of the November the following year).
The 15k points isn’t always there, so you need to decide whether to risk it. There’s no issue with having 2 weekend night vouchers, but you need to use your current one by the expiry date or you’ll lose it.
Is diamond status still renewed when renewing ambassador? My ambassador status ends on Oct 31, and diamond on 31/12/23. I usually don’t go to Intercontinental hotels, so Ambassador on its own isn’t worth it for me. However I got lot of value from Diamond last year. I read somewhere that diamond isn’t renewed anymore, but would like to confirm it. Thanks!
My diamond status had already been extended to end of 2024 so afraid I can’t confirm what impact ambassador renewal currently has. On the other hand, as advised above, I’ve just renewed myself and the 15k points were added instantly – and the account now has 2 free weekend night vouchers. One with an expiry end of Nov 23, and the other a year later.
@PB2, where are you using your expiring free night voucher? It’s becoming more and more difficult to get good value from these, IME, it would be so useful if they had kept the ability to use them at Kimptons.
Never used one of these vouchers before but looking at the IC Madrid in November as will be in the city anyway. Reasonable value once you factor in the diamond elite free breakfast I think. Had a lovely stay at the IC Porto (building works out the front aside) earlier in the year, but that was a (very reasonable) cash booking. Service was great. Would like to use the voucher in Manhattan but that may have to wait until next year. Open to any ideas or thoughts! Yep a shame Kimpton not accepted – had a lovely stay at the new Mallorca Kimpton last winter.
We used one of our two weekend vouchers at the IC Madrid last month. We like the hotel and return when we can, primarily because of the lovely staff, but also the because the location, and also the decor, suits us. For us it was worth booking a room with Club Lounge access using the weekend voucher, even though we already had breakfast included with Diamond, but that may well not be the case for everyone.
@PB2 – I apologise if I’ve got you wrong on this but from your posts I’m wondering if you know that the weekend night is actually a) just the 2nd night free of a 2-night stay (with the 1st night being a cash booking), and b) your older voucher will expire at the end of November, it’s stay by, not book by? It sounds a bit like you may be confusing them with the (now defunct) IHG credit card free night vouchers.
Also, hotels only set a certain amount of inventory aside for the Ambassador weekend and some hotels will have no availability this close to your travel dates.
Thanks @Lyn and @NorthernLass. Sorry if not clear but yes I believe I do understand the concept of this voucher as you explain it. To run through my logic; we wanted a 2 night Fri-Sun stay in the Madrid IC, in November 2023. Me, my wife and our 6m old baby.
I’m aware the voucher rate is higher than the best available rate. In this case the cash, booking direct, best available rate was 312€ per night incl. tax. The cheapest room offered for 3 guests (before the ambassador upgrade I assume?) was a premium club room – so nice to get lounge access too. @Lyn – being diamond how would you suggest to play it – breakfast in the main restaurant and then pop into lounge for drinks and snacks as and when at other times?
The same room booked at the “free 2nd night” rate was 407€ per night. So 95€ extra on the first night but then second night free.
Invoice shows 814€ charge which I expect to be halved at check out. We should also get the bar/food credit for holding ambassador status too I assume?
When I signed up for ambassador the 2 nights in Porto (by end of Jan 2023) triggered £80 of points so the voucher effectively cost me £100 (given poor USD exchange rate a year ago).
I’ve secured the room with my BAPP credit card and assume that when spending over £300 in-hotel I’ll also trigger the £70 statement credit on top. The Madrid IC is somewhat hidden on the front page of eligible properties, amongst French hotels…
What I didn’t expect was to see the website suggesting I’ll also earn over 15k points from this (worth £60). Would these 2 nights also maybe trigger the 2000 points for 2 nights offer that is currently live too?
On the face of it I’m quite happy with that, but thanks for the second opinion though.
Lol, yes it sounds like you’ve got it all worked out!
With diamond breakfast I don’t think it’s worth paying extra for a club room most of the time but that looks like a good deal, especially for 3 of you.
Yes it should trigger the 2k points.
Strictly speaking you get the 2nd night free so it can be either more or less than half on the final bill, but I have noticed lately that quite a few ICs are just showing the final charge as the average of both nights. Once you book it will show in your account what you’ll be charged at check out.
Thanks for your help – I got lucky with timing of the Amex offer and rate availability by sounds of it (I’d lost track of the voucher expiry date to be honest)! It’s a full time job this points business!
The T&Cs specifically say it’s the 2nd night is free. Not an average of the two.
Earlier this year at the IC San Francisco my Saturday night was arounf $ 250 and the Sunday was $ 600+ (There was a huge conference starting the Monday)
No Way would I have accepted an average!
Yes obviously you’re free to challenge any other amount, I was just saying that you can often see in advance how much they are proposing to charge you so you have a heads-up. And it could be a benefit anyway if your second night is the cheaper one, e.g.if you’re staying Sat and Sun night.
@PB2 we had breakfast in the restaurant downstairs one morning and otherwise in the lounge. You may want to try both and see which you prefer. The restaurant has a different atmosphere and was much busier and on first view seemed to offer much more choice. However, the only actual difference I noted was the availability of avocado and rocket downstairs, and I think cava may have been available as well. The lounge is quieter, and while the food selection looks much smaller it actually isn’t as you are expected to order freshly cooked egg dishes and accompaniments. There is a menu on each table. No eggs benedict or the like, but their Tortilla (Spanish omelette) is good. We actually ordered this downstairs as well although this may not be common.
The extra cost for the lounge was worthwhile for us since you are actually paying half of the normal add-on with the AMB certificate. However, apart from breakfast, the food and drink offerings in the lounge are somewhat limited, with wine only available during a set period in the evening, and not really the best quality at that! Beer seemed to be there all day. We really liked having a quiet space to pop in for a coffee and agua con gas when it suited us and most of the lounge staff are, as throughout the hotel, very helpful. I hope you and your wife enjoy it.
I forgot to add – I agree with BA Flyer. The cost will be that of the first night, not the average. You should see both the average and the breakdown into individual nights on their web-site.
Sometimes the system shows you earning points for both nights, so an inflated number, but this won’t stickm, and you will just earn points for the night you pay for. You will, however, get credit for two qualifying nights for any promotions.
Also, you should get an additional AMB upgrade on top of your premium room booking. We were once offered a suite, but only on one occasion in October pre-Covid when they probably weren’t too busy!
Another omission – yes, you would still get the AMB food/drink credit, small though it is. You may need to check your bill for this though, as the hotel seems to process the bills ahead of time overnight, and may not be sophisticated enough to account for this.
If you happen to chose to have breakfast in the lounge instead of the restaurant you would presumably be able to ask for drinks vouchers instead. The wine choice downstairs in the evening is better than in the lounge.
Also, you can go straight up to the lounge on the first floor to check in. Easier to sit down comfortably there rather than standing at reception, especially with a young baby.
