Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Ambassador Voucher – 2nd Night Free Query

    Good Afternoon.

Back in April-2024 I booked two nights at the IC Estoril using the AMB voucher for Feb-25 in a King Classic Ocean View. The email confirmation showed:

    Room Rate Per Night: Sun 09 Feb 2025 – Tue 11 Feb 2025 355,00 € (EUR)
    Additional Charges: 8,00 € (EUR)
Estimated Total Price: 718,00 € (EUR)

The booking in my IHG account shows:

    Total 363.00 EUR

    Room Rate: 334.91 EUR
    Feb 9 – Feb 10 334.91 EUR
    Feb 10 – Feb 11 0.00 EUR

    Additional Charges: 8.00 EUR
A city tax fee of 2.00 EUR per day per person will be applied
    VAT: 20.09 EUR

    This is clear to me that for this booking I would pay 355€ (334.91 + 20.09) + 8€ = 363€.

Today I was checking whether I could get an improved price using the AMB voucher and I thought I had found an improvement so I booked it. The email confirmation showed:

    Room Rate Per Night:
    Sun 09 Feb 2025 – Mon 10 Feb 2025 274,00 € (EUR)
    Mon 10 Feb 2025 – Tue 11 Feb 2025 279,00 € (EUR)
    Additional Charges: 16,00 € (EUR)
Estimated Total Price: 569,00 € (EUR)

At this point I was under the impression that this new reservation would cost me 290€ (274 + 16).

However, when I go into the booking in my IHG account I see the following:

    Total 569.00 EUR

    Room Rate: 521.70 EUR
    Feb 9 – Feb 10 258.49 EUR
    Feb 10 – Feb 11 263.21 EUR

    Additional Charges: 16.00 EUR
A city tax fee of 4.00 EUR per day per person will be applied
    VAT: 31.30 EUR

Does this mean that IHG now averages out the Room Rate across the two nights in the reservation when pricing AMB reservations. Or are they displaying them differently in the IHG accounts and I will still get the second night free and the cost will be either 290€ or 305.79€ (258.49 + 16 + 31.30)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You should only be charged for the first night at checkout. Sometimes hotels try and charge the average – this CAN work in your favour if your first night is the more expensive, but if it doesn’t, keep a screenshot of the pricing when you booked and insist they charge you the correct rate.

*I have also seen reduced cash prices recently; the first night of my ICPL stay in May has now gone down by £80 since I first booked it!

Monday night isn’t the weekend. The voucher is invalid.

    Indeed.

This is what the T&Cs state

‘Weekend’ is defined to include Friday, Saturday and Sunday, except in the Middle East where hotels may define the weekend as Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

So Fri & Sat or Sat & Sun nights bookings.

@TJones @BA Flyer IHG Stayer – Bu88er I knew I had missed something. I thought it only needed to land on one of the weekend nights not both. Thanks for pointing out.

Don’t think it not being a weekend stay actually matters. As long as IHG lets you book with the voucher, you’ll be fine.

    @Kai
    – I had a little check online and it would appear that the IHG Website will let you book nearly any two-night combo with the voucher depending on availability. You then run the risk of whether the hotel honour it as it. I read a couple of examples of ICs not doing so on FlyerTalk. So, I’ve booked the Railcard rate for the same room and it’s only £80 more and I have peace of mind. I also have an excuse to book another break somewhere to use it up 🙂

In my experience, the cost of the second night is shown at the time of booking and then removed some time later (some days to a couple of weeks). @supergers49 you should be fine and your new booking should update itself in the near future.
