A reward round trip from JFK-MIA on American Airlines is coming up as 18k points + £8.60
I have Avios points so need to go through British Airways to redeem the reward.
The exact same return trip is coming up as 32k points + £8.60 on British Airways.
Is there another way to book AA flights using Avios?
I know the partner conversion is not always like for like, but almost double the points! am I missing something?
Genuine question – does an AA point have the same value as an Avios?
I think that’s just the avios pricing these days, as opposed to AA miles pricing. It seems to have gone up quite a bit recently. I paid 12k avios for MIA-GCM, one way recently, which is half the distance of JFK-MIA, so your price doesn’t actually sound too bad!
If you have the ability to transfer to Iberia you can check what they charge. Otherwise there are options via Quantas and Etihad if you have those currencies (maybe via Amex MR conversion).
But yes, BA upped their partner award rates to make them uncompetitive.
AA offer web saver mile fares and much better rates than a lot of other airlines, it’s just really hard to earn AA miles in the UK.

No they’re worth way more but very hard to get if you’re in the UK. My recent Qatar redemption via AA (MAN-DOH-JNB) in J was only 55k+£263.
Have you tried via QR or IB accounts?
Don’t forget Finnair

Oh the days of the RBS AAdvantage card!
@JDB They’ve even screwed over those of us that used Rocketmiles to earn them. Now it’s AA Hotels powered by RM, and unless you hold a US AA credit card you only get a tenth of the miles for each stay.
I am looking for ways to earn AA miles, but seems as UK based no practical options other than via Marriott Bonvoy, there is no practical way to earn large number of AA Miles from UK.
RIP MBNA AA Card and Tesco 3V giftcards…..
@Roger The only ones I’m aware of are e-rewards, Bonvoy conversions and AA Hotels which will occasionally run bonus offers that make it almost worthwhile – I have 1100 coming for a 1 night £53 stay this week.
