Forums Payment cards American Express Amex 20% restaurant cash back

  • 15 posts

Have used already a couple of times the 20% statement credit offer on restaurants and am thinking of booking up a decent restaurant between Christmas and New Year to enjoy this benefit one final time. Given the proximity to end of year, however, I am worried that maybe a delay in the “system” will mean the credit doesnt ultimately get applied? Any thoughts on this, and if I will be able to make a case for the credit (if it doesnt get posted), based on the date of my reservation? Tks

    The offer terms state:

Spend must be billed to your Card account by 31/12/2024, to be eligible for this offer. If a merchant does not charge your Card during this period, you may not be eligible for this offer.

It shouldn’t matter how many days it takes to show as a cleared transaction on your statement, just as long as the restaurant processes the transaction online within the offers date range (i.e. it shows as a pending transaction). Credits usually take a few weeks to apply post transaction, but the qualification is the transaction date.
