Amex BA PP downgrade declined

For the first time today, Amex declined my request to downgrade from the BA Premium Plus to the standard BA card.
Instead, they offered a generous retention deal: £50 credited to my balance if I spend £15,000 over the next six months, bringing my total spend to £35,000 in just nine months. After 20 years with them, they’d rather see me go than let me downgrade. That’s a first!

Have you tried simply applying on line for the free BA card. Please post again if this fails.

Have you tried online? My daughter downgraded her card 2-3 weeks ago online and change went through almost immediately. So much so that when she logged into her account shortly afterwards on the app, the card had already changed colour! New cards arrived within a couple of days.

I couldn’t see that option online, and the operator on live chat told me “that offer isn’t available for you” which was wicked!

Do you downgrade once you get the voucher? Then wait until the next rolls around, spend xx.990… upgrade to spend the final £10, then downgrade again by any chance?

Unsurprisingly, after years of allowing it, they don’t like this.

Uh-oh, I did not know one can do this, I thought the whole spend has to be on the required type of card!
Anyway, I don’t mind £300 fee, but I diligently spent £15k+ for the voucher and used it paying money bit with the same PP card. Considering it’s May and there is still no new info about BA tier points on PP card, I find the card fairly useless.

Not sure what was that about with the chat agent refusals if it’s a simple link.

For some reason the agents; chat and phone are unable to process upgrade and downgradw hwere this link does it effortlessly.
