Discuss today's stories:
Hi,
I just realised that my new Amex BA premium account hasn’t been set up for direct debit (DD) for the first month’s bill. The payment date was 13th April and I realised about the non-payment on the 14th (today) and immediately called up Amex and informed them that I thought DD was set up and it was a mistake. The lady on the line has taken the full payment over the call and said she would leave a note for waving the late fee etc, although not guaranteed. I informed her that I have an Amex Platinum for over 8 years and never missed a payment. I would really appreciate if someone could clarify two things for me, please?
1. The Amex BA card, for which I missed payment by a day, has a 60k Avios welcome bonus, which will trigger if I spend £6k in the first three months. I am on my course to complete it. Now I am not sure if I will receive the bonus points, as unknowngly I seem to have broken the card agreement about paying the payment on time.
2. I read in different places that since the payment is just one day late, it wouldn’t impact my credit history. I am planning to apply for a mortgage later this year. Could someone please confirm if there wouldn’t be an issue?
I very much appreciate your kind reply. Thank you.
I think you’re probably fine – fairly sure I’ve done the same as you in the past and not encountered any issues. I think there’s a day or two’s leeway allowed. No guarantees though – you will need to keep an eye on your credit report just in case.
