Hi
I have what feels like a niche issue but can’t be as this must affect lots of people…
My wife changed her name almost everywhere when we got married last year, this included bank accounts (including with Barclays who also changed her name on her Barclaycard Avios). For some reason her Amex slipped the net. She also didn’t change anything to do with travel as planned to keep her current passport until it expired in 2028 or so.
Amex sent her a new card recently and so she realised she’d missed them and so changed her name with them too. Now her BAPP Avios, and 2 for 1 voucher, won’t sent across as the names don’t match. This is very reasonable from a fraud perspective (though interesting that there’s no issue with the Barclaycard).
So it seems like the solutions are (a) change her name back on Amex. Does anyone have experience of them doing this? Or (b) change her name on BAEC. My concern here is presumably ticket name has to match BAEC name? And I understand they’re quite strict on 2 for 1 ticket name matching voucher holders’ name…
Surely someone has had a similar issue? Aware that (b) + replacing passport early is the most sensible but trying to save a premature £85!
You’ve answered it yourself. I’d take the view that the risk of well over £85 of hassle and time spent when passport doesn’t match all other documents – potentially at a foreign border crossing where they don’t speak English and aren’t keen on being helpful – here (or missing or being blocked from a redemption/offer that saved many multiples of this sum) are massively more than £85.
BA will change her name on her account and tickets when presented with copies of the relevant documentation – it’s just about the only time they will change a name on a ticket.
Other airlines may have different policies so that may mean taking copy of marriage certificate and old and new passports with her for any existing bookings.
You’ve answered it yourself.
Fair 🙂
I was clearly hoping for some secret way around the inevitable!
At the moment everything does match – tickets, passports, credit cards (as almost every bank / card asks if you want new cards issued at name change and she declined this). It’ll be much more of a hassle to change everything now…
She certainly won’t be able to change the passport in the short term as won’t have time between planned travel to risk sending it in. If she were to change name on BAEC now, but not change names on existing bookings, would that be an issue? Presumably things wouldn’t credit properly if the names didn’t match…
