Forums Payment cards American Express Amex FHR Booking – One & Only Mauritius

  • 1 post

Hi, I wanted to see if anyone had any experience with the below please.

Trying to book the One & Only in Mauritius for 2 adults and 2 children under 2. Would like to use the FHR benefits, but when booking online, there is no room basis given. We would like Half Board, but it seems you can only get the B&B rate offered through FHR. However, each room when searching provides 2 rates, but there is no difference between them (both are refundable until 30 days prior to departure).

I have called the Platinum concierge, and they said to get Half Board, you lose the FHR benefits, or you book the FHR rate and pay a small fortune on a daily basis to get Half Board. Feels like its a computer says ‘no’ situation. Keen to hear if anyone has found a way around this or any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

@matski – If you are wanting half board, FHR doesn’t really bring much to the party as the biggest ‘benefit’ is breakfast which would be included in HB and you won’t get a cash alternative. I don’t know whether you would need the early/late check-in/out but I would expect a hotel to offer this without needing to get it from FHR. The $100 credit is per stay, so doesn’t amount to much on a nightly basis if you are maybe staying for a week. The FHR upgrade is only on a ‘maybe’ basis so essentially worthless. If you write (or even better, call) to the hotel and explain the situation, I would be amazed if they wouldn’t offer you a better/cheaper overall package and guaranteed upgrade if you book directly which saves them paying Amex a substantial commission. It also gives you the opportunity to discuss the most suitable accommodation and location which probably matters a lot as you are travelling with two very young children.
