Forums Payment cards American Express Amex Global Transfer – salary requirements?

  • 1 post

I’m a student coming to the UK to study for a period of time, about 6 months. I’m planning to use Amex’s Global Transfer to get a card in the UK and will have had an Amex card in Singapore for about 1 year and 4 months by the time I apply in December. I understand Amex UK has recently imposed some salary requirements, does anyone have a hunch if they would apply to Global Transfers as well?

No harm trying. You dont have a credit history, so even if they reject, it doesnt matter. If you decide to apply, send documents showing your offer from uni and apply for less premium cards like the free MR card or the cashback one without fees.

Whats a typical processing time for a Global Transfer? I applied in NZ (from the UK) around five weeks ago and still haven’t had a decision. All the call centre seems to be able to tell me is that it’s still pending.

Amex have been known to overlook their own salary requirements in certain circumstances, in a GT case it would likely be down to what the origin country Amex tells Amex UK.

Varies by country. Amex Australia took around 4-6 weeks (wanted some employment history and ultimately the decision was made by Amex UK, I was told). I was able to get credit cards from Australian banks more quickly (as soon as I had one payslip) than Amex via Global Transfer.

Amex US was instant approval online (they use Nova Credit to pull your history from overseas). I suspect Amex NZ operates more like Australia than the US.
