Forums Payment cards American Express Amex Gold First Year Free

    Hi

I get that you don’t get the bonus points if you have had a personal Amex in the last 24 months, but when does the “first year free” reset?

So I had a Gold, moved it to BAPP. If I reapply for Gold, I’m guessing I’ll have to pay the £160 but made me wonder when does that reset? (if ever).

Eventually I’d like a Platinum with the bonus so I thought going to Gold then upgrading to Platinum would at least give me some MR bonus rather than waiting 2 years.

Why not just sign up now for the Platinum if you currently hold the BAPP? You’d get the SUB.

I believe if you get the Gold card first it will rule out getting a SUB on the Platinum card

As long as he has not held the gold in the last 2 years

@sloth yes I forgot that. Sounds like @ekposh has only had the BAPP for a short while.

As long as you’re accepted, the 1st year with Gold is always free, regardless whether you held the card recently or not.

I hadn’t appreciated that. Reading it again, it’s obvious, it’s a personal MR Amex that you can’t ha e held, I’d totally missed the MR bit. Thanks.I still need to wait but it works a lot better.

In my head, going to Gold was an option as you often get an upgrade SUB from gold to platinum so thought that might be a way around it, but makes more sense just to wait the 2 years from Gold which is not far off.

I’m sure there will be some increased sub’s post 2 October also…
