Forums Payment cards American Express Amex Gold personalised offer

  • 19 posts

When I logged in the Amex app I saw a personalised offer for 25k sign up bonus for the Amex PRG. I cancelled a Platinum card about 18 months ago, but it looks like I would be eligible sign up bonus because it is a personalised offer (there is nothing on the sign up page saying that I must not have held a MR card for 24 months).

Is this right? Or would I not be eligible?

Check the T and Cs very closely – it’s likely you’ll still be stuck with the 24-month rule on a personal card. There’s usually a link to full terms in the offer, regardless of what it says on the application page.

@bgs – a personalised offer doesn’t override the general welcome bonus terms unless it’s an upgrade offer. You aren’t yet eligible for the PRG offer.

Looking at the sign up page for the personalised offer it doesn’t have the 24 months exclusion anywhere (unlike on the public page where it clearly says it in a couple of places).

You’ve already stated that, and two posters have given their opinion.

If I tell you that everything will be fine are you then going to proceed with the sign-up? And will you then be disappointed when you don’t receive the signup points?

If you’ve got the Cashback card and see this offer, then it might actually be legit. The welcome bonus says you can’t get the bonus if you’ve held an Amex card in the past 24 months, but people on Reddit also got this offer (35K points instead) last year when they owned a Cashback card. They actually did earn this targeted/personalised offer after hitting the required spending. I’ve seen someone else post that they’re seeing this offer this year, so they might be bringing it back for people with the Cashback card.

Today it appeared on my desktop and this time it was more or less explicit that there is no exclusion for existing customers – “… enjoy an exclusive welcome offer, usually only available for new Cardmembers”.

I applied, so will see soon.

I applied to the offer and got a card with a new number (even if my gold/plat number was the same for the last 15 years). I had Gold 6 months ago, upgraded to Platinum 3 months ago and Platinum closed a month ago. Already put my rent and ctax through and got 25000 bonus MR.

Also have this offer, relates to my old platinum cashback card which was offered as a companion card quite some time ago to the platinum charge card, it recently got converted to the blue card.

    Text from email below…

Mr X, take out Gold Card for a tasty welcome offer of 25,000 bonus points.
