Forums Payment cards American Express Amex Platinum 75K bonus: final date to cancel to still get bonus?

  • 4 posts

    Hi all,
Working towards the amex plat 75K bonus on £10k spend but realise the pro-rata cancellation finishes on the 28th Feb. If I remember correctly, the terms say points will post ~10 days after hitting the £10k. Does this mean I realistically need to hit the 10k by the 18th Feb if planning to cancel on the 28th, or is it reasonable to assume amex will honour point bonuses if they arrive after the card is cancelled? (Even as I’m writing this it feels unlikely as I would then not have an amex point card (only other amex is BA premium)). Any thoughts appreciated.

It doesn’t finish on 29th February.

It finishes at some point after 29th February – could be days, weeks or months afterwards.

The only certainty is that it won’t end before 29th February.

Thanks Rob, I realise it’s been delayed already and may be again. I was opting for the most conservative/strict interpretation. A few of the benefits were pleasant surprises and have been great overall. It’s marginal whether it’s worth me keeping, but definitely more attractive with the pro-rata refund intact. Cheers.

Your mileage may vary but from my experience the points post the following day after the transaction that triggers the 10k has posted. I wouldn’t leave it until the last minute, however, if your intentions are to cancel the card afterwards. You will have to make sure your points are transferred to a partner first assuming you don’t have another membership rewards earning card to keep them alive.

Thank you. I don’t have the free or gold card, so would probably just move them to avios asap.
