Hi, we have an amex platinum earning healthy points. The card is in one of the Director’s names, and the other Director has a supplmentary Platinum card. The points earnings are split equally between the two people. However, there is no easy way we can see of ‘giving’ the points and moving them away from the main account holder to the other Director.
Would consider sending as Amex Points (as holds his own personal Amex points/card) or converting to Avios and then sending.
Is this in anyway possible? Thanks in advance!
The only way is to have two card accounts as the points are ‘owned’ by you personally and would be in your name
The only other way I can see of splitting without a fee is to send half to Hilton and then giving them to the non main cardholder director.
Other cashout methods such as Avios incur a fee to move points between people.
Hmmm, or an amex statement credit, but at 0.45p per point, and by the sounds of it taxable, it’s not great.
An alternative is to refer between each other so that one director holds the card one year, then refers to the other director to hold the following year.
Hi, I am circling around on this as its crunch time on sorting. So we have 1M Amex points available in the Primary Card Holders account, of which as a supplementary card holder I ‘own’ 700K of those points. I have to either 1) spend the points using them as statement credit (not ideal due to redemption value) or 2) somehow get them converted to Avios, then seond stage gift them (even if a charge applicable) to my avious account. D
Does anyone know if option 2) works, as seems okay to me? Anything to be wary of? Or any other suggestions appreciated!
If you have a specific redemption in mind, and presuming you’re wanting to book through BA, you could do this:
– Primary card holder moves all their household points (if applicable) to linked Iberia/Qatar accounts
– You are added to their ‘Friends and Family’ list.
– You transfer the number of Avios needed to Primary cardholder’s account
– Make the booking
This way, you can keep your points in MR until you need/want to use them.
Amex really need to do something about this. Rob can’t you use your contacts to see if there is anyway forward?
I moved to CoT because they allow transfers to multiple accounts. But the business has grown and now I’m missing out on the double points for £10K+ per month.
Converting to Marriott points from MR, then transfer to Marriott account of “supplementary” director might work, assuming Marriott dont have a limit on transfers, and the sup. director was happy to take their reward in Bonvoys. I’d be very happy with over a million in Marriott myself, just as happy, if not more so, than a cash out to Avios.
