I read on a recent post that Avios/Amex occasionally have an added bonus for transferring MR points over to Avios.
Does anyone know when the last time this happened and what the percentage bonus was? I transferred a few MR points to Virgin in November as they had a 30% bonus which was fine, is it a case of just waiting…Many thanks
At least in the UK this hasn’t happened for a long time, and won’t be happening any time soon. Rob has (quite) recently reported that Amex would like to reduce the number of points redeemed for avios/other air miles.
It hasn’t happened in the 12 years that HfP has been running so I suspect you’re looking at 2010 when it last happened, at a guess.
Not sure if that counts as ‘occasionally’ in your book 🙂
The only wild card is that Qatar Airways is keen to get UK residents opening Qatar Airways Privilege Club accounts so its possible they could do something (albeit Amex probably wouldn’t promote it, as they wouldn’t promote the Virgin offer).

Could a co-branded credit card work or is that just not feasible in the UK without the backing of Amex?
