Forums Payment cards American Express Amex WorldHotels offer – any experience?

  • 11,322 posts

There’s a cash back offer currently for World Hotels – a bit niche but it includes the Sofraga Palacio hotel in Avila which would be convenient for a trip to Spain I’m planning for next year.

It seems possible to make a booking directly on the hotel website, but not via World Hotels (it just shows as no dates available for booking). The offer Ts and Cs are a bit vague – it just says applies to checkout spend at participating properties. I can’t see any reference to having to book through a specific website.

Any thoughts on whether the offer will track if not booked through World Hotels’ website? It’s clearly listed as an eligible property.

Based on my experiences the past few years which I have been using with hotels in Inverness, it always tracked (i.e. received the credit back with no issue). In those occasions, I booked online and paid either during check-out and/or via payment link sent from the front desk.

Answering your question, I don’t think you can book through World Hotels website and will need to book direct.

I am going to try to use the one in Bangkok (Carlton) towards end of this year but will use in the restaurant and not staying. It is a bit risky but you don’t try you don’t know.

Thanks, @Vit – that is a bit weird that it’s a World Hotels offer, but you can’t actually book with them … !

Reviving this thread as a new 30% up to £100 offer has appeared on my BAPP and Gold card. Looks like more UK hotels than last time (though didn’t see or use it when it appeared last year). Offer isn’t completely clear but I assume it means up to £100 cashback rather than up to £100 spend. This would equate to a spend of up to £333 – not quite as good as last time which was equivalent to 40% cash back though no minimum spend required (if I’ve understood correctly) so easier to achieve full 30% back.

Any other experiences out there from last time? And are hotels always happy to split a bill between different cards? (Presumably not possible for an online booking.)

I didn’t use the last offer in the end, but if booking pre-paid rates with other chains, you can always book separate nights and pay on different cards. I’ve done this successfully with Hilton and Marriott (keep a record of whom you’ve paid with which card, however!)

Used the offer last year and was able to split the bill across two different cards without any issues. Cashback was triggered on both cards.
