Hoping to maximise my food and drink strategy for upcoming flights.
Apart from savouring as much Hibiki and Krug as I can manage on a 14 hour red eye, what other expensive high-end beverages and foods should I be looking at to maximise the value of the ticket?
Surely the best value is from you enjoying what you eat and drink, not from what is the most expensive. Just choose what you feel like having on the day.
Surely you checked the menus for the next two months on your route here

I’d decide in advance whether you want Japanese or International meal. There is also anytime meal and light dishes.
Nihonshū wise, I like Matsunotsukasa Black which retails around £30 per bottle. Considering how cheap is alcohol in Japan, that’s expensive.
They also have premium juices and teas which can be more expensive than alcohol. Currently they are serving premium grape juice (not wine, just to be clear) which retails at around £55 per bottle (9000 yen). They had some expensive peach juice when I flew last before pandemic.
If you’re drinking Hibiki, then make sure it’s Hibiki 21 as they also serve 17.
On a red-eye, I’d also try to maximise sleep especially if you plan activities straight after you arrive rather than indulge in too much food and especially alcohol.
@JDB? Any suggestions? 🙂
I can’t even contemplate responding to the grossly ghastly question that exemplifies a lot of the problems we experience in travel and society generally.
