The BA holiday double tier points deal looks a great way to get a load of tier points.
I can see a few decent euro flights to places like Malta, which would bet 320 tier points.
But are there any long hall bangers that someone could do 5 day booking (plus car hire so I could use hotel status) to get a chunk of TP’s.
I have 800 TPs coming in the last month of my year, and already on 200, so anything that could hit 500 in a single trip would be amazing.
If you went from somewhere in the UK such as Edinburgh in club, you would get 40 + 80 points each leg, so with double points it would be 480 points. with positioning flights in the right fare bucket it should get you to 500 points.
Sofia seems a popular cheap route for TO runs, but lots of other choices to check out and refine using google flights
e.g. New York ex LHR in club is 140 per leg so 280 return = 560 if booked as part of a BA Holiday
With the current sale on there’s some very cheap CE seats. If I wanted 500 points I’d do domestic connections in and out of LHR. For example, I’ve one segment from LHR to MAN in a booking that was £50. 6 segments plus car hire for 480 points is costing me on average £650.

Just had a look myself. Do you mean just point to point in the UK, 6 times?
The problem with long haul is that cash fares in J are quite high just now so you may not get great value per TP. Best bet as pointed out above is probably east coast USA, but you can check least expensive destinations with the BA low fare finder tool. This usually translates to BA holiday prices.
@executiveclubber – you can make a BA holiday out of, say, MAN-LHR-EDI return with 5 days’ car hire, which gives you a lot of flexibility to return home between the flying segments.

Yes. I’ve a few of these lined up which will get me GGL by mid October. An example would be BHD-LHR-DUB-LHR-MAN-LHR-BHD. But any combination works. I use the holiday finder to find cheapest business day trips/overnights. Then fiddle about with that in ITA matrix. Some of my routes have 3 flights in one day with plenty of connection time between them. I pick up a car hire and just drive home with it. I’ve one booking with 10 segments getting getting me 960 points as I put in a day return to Sofia as well.
A simple one I did was TLV. Was £1k for flights and car rental. It’s Club World so even on old style is better than CE (for example to Jordan) and not too long. Great place to visit. 560 points.
@Angelamc11, good to know this works, I’m hoping to renew Silver next year with a couple of itineraries like this. OH will think I am crazy yet will appreciate the lounge access, seat selection and being exempt from checking in hand baggage, of course!
We have plans for Singapore and California this year.
By a happy coincidence that is 1,520 tier points in business class from Edinburgh when booked as holidays (and we do need a car) which is as near as you can get to bang on gold.
However, BA kindly opened up availability using the Amex 241 voucher to Singapore so I was happy to use that rather than let the tail wag the dog as it were.

My partner definitely thinks I’m nuts for doing this. But he’s impressed with the list of benefits of GGL. I’m fortunate in that for the most part I can work on the go with my laptop and books, and only have 1 day per week I must be at work in-person. I also really enjoy the short business flights and lounges and I’m mostly in row 1.
Similar here, though I’m lucky to be mostly retired these days so have plenty of flexibility to do this! We do actually visit Scotland a couple of times a year so I will do the MAN-LHR-EDI/GLA sectors by air and OH can get the train and join me up there and we’ll use the car for nice road trips, using IHG and Hilton points for accommodation.
@NorthernLass – you doing a TP run to get/retain Silver is not quite at the same level of crazy as @Angelamc11 ‘s GGL efforts… I don’t know if all her TPs are being gathered in this way but if they are there’s a cost of c.£5k to be taken into account (assuming managing to keep cost per TP to £1), not to mention the time spent on each run!
Lol – she has actually got me wondering if I could make it to Gold at some point 😂.
I was already sitting on 1800 points with a year end of Nov, when the sale started. I priced up trips to reach the 3500 for the GUF vouchers, then realised another 2 trips and by adding more segments to the routes I was originally planning, I could reach the 5000 easily. However, I decided to go for 6000 points, so I would get an extra GUF. I wanted to make 5000 with time for the jokers to reach my account so I would have 2 extra jokers I could use before 8th Nov. The extra 1000 points is also a safety net if things go wrong/cancellations or delays with any of the bookings. Cost was around 3K, I’m not costing in the first 1800 as they were actually holidays I was taking anyway. Avios returns is around 70k, with 4 jokers and 3 GUF, plus all the other benefits. Seems like a good deal to me, plus I’m doing what I enjoy – flying.
Bravo, @Angela, if HFP had membership tiers you would be Gold/Diamond/Titanium!
Sorry to sound dumb, but when trying to book on BA holidays with a Rental car, it doesn’t let me book extra stops like – LHR-MAN-EDI,
Does anyone have advice on how to do this?
The Holidays site is very basic and old looking.

Try using the Custom trip option for Flight and Car bookings on the main booking page

Lol it is going to involve a lot time and effort. But each GUF saves me 200k avios so well worth it from my perspective. Plus the jokers will allow me to open up avios in F ex-Dub using Amex CV’s, so again very valuable for next years trips.
I’ve had lots of issues pricing up routes with domestic connections recently, even using “customise my trip”. Just kept getting error messages saying BA doesn’t fly this route! If you keep trying it usually works at some point. It’s a lot of faffing around though. BA IT!
It’s easier to just ring and get BA to put the itinerary together. If they have problems doing it just tell them to use the bypass function on their booking system.
Have they booked any of your itineraries?! I always think it’ll be really obvious what I’m trying to do 😂

@NorthernLass – keep friendly with @Angelamc11 then, as she’ll be able to gift Gold status to somebody very soon … 😉Have they booked any of your itineraries?! I always think it’ll be really obvious what I’m trying to do 😂
I booked them all through gold line. At times with chatty agents I was very honest about what I was doing lol. I’m not breaking rules and they were encouraging and helpful. They said when phoning to make similar bookings to tell the agent to use the bypass function so they could book it easily. Some insisted on double checking I would receive the bonus BAH points.
