I have a stay coming up in Osaka – 2 rooms at the Moxy, about £650 each.
Both my wife and I have a Bonvoy gold car by virtue of Amex plat.
Not really worried about an upgrade on the second room as it’s for the “kids” and they need a twin.
Is there any benefit in putting each room on a different card? My wife doesn’t stay in hotels much (unless she’s with me) so it’s not like we will miss the night credits. I think I just leave it all on my card, but open to hear other ideas!
Thanks
Off the top of my head, I cannot see any upside to paying on different cards – and the downside is if you want to push for the free night for spending $25,000.
FYI, I’m sure you know this already, but the upgrades etc are based on status not the credit card, so you the rooms can be booked by one of you and payed by another, or split. You don’t say what status you both have, but if one has higher, I’d book both with that account for breakfast, more points earned etc. There isn’t a lot of scope for upgrades in Moxys anyway
Thanks for confirming. We both have bonvoy gold as a benefit of the Amex Platinum card, so I’ll just put all the points on my account.
If your wife’s account has bonvoy points, a stay in her name can extend the expiry of her points.

Good call – hadn’t thought of that!
Also good to note that you can transfer 100,000 points if both accounts meet the criteria

Thanks again. Wife’s account is at zero, so arguably best not to get on that wagon – even if it does mean foregoing a 25% bonus on the second room? Tend not to go for Bonvoy hotels these days, just seem to be picking up a few stays at the moment but can’t see spend for the year exceeding £2.5k, never mind £25k!
If you are not bothered about night credits then the only differences I can think of are:
If you have one of the rooms each then you will each get 250 points as an elite welcome gift, if you book both rooms under your name you’ll only get one welcome gift
With the rooms under separate names then both have a chance of a slight upgrade, both under the same name then only one will have that chance.
If you are booking them together under your name, make sure you pay for them both together in one bill, so you get the points for both – you will get your 25% gold bonus on the total spend if they’re combined.
