Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Purchasing some apple products in the next month or so and have noticed the avios offered for going via the BA online shopping portal has dropped from 6 per £1 to 3 per £1. Any idea if this is due to the launch of the new iPhone and whether it will go back up to 6 ? Hoping someone who’s used this frequently before will have an idea of how often / when it fluctuates

It’s not. There’s no Avios available on new products, included and excluded products made quite clear. It’s seems a random switch between the regular 3, and the increased 6 happens a few times a year. There’s been odd offers of 8 or 10 I think too, but much rarer.

The Avios rate fluctuates all the time with little pattern, but it’s not connected to the new iPhone launch as new products are always excluded from any eStore Avios anyway (not just a lower rate). The rate can go as high as 12 which I have used once in early November and another time in March. 3 – 6 is the most common offer and they do pay very quickly.

Any idea when the exclusions are included? I think player 2 can wait a bit for a new phone, but would be good to know how long

It’s generally at least three months from launch. There is always a list on the eStore of currently ineligible products so I’m not sure if that will give you a clue if you know when the products were launched. Unfortunately, I think iPhones stay on longer than iPads! Probably depends on how sales and availability are looking.

I’ve always been paid out for items that are listed specifically as exclusions. My last purchase was around 12 months ago, so things may have changed.

I’d assume the iPhone exclusion will be short lived this year since apple are already discounting the 15 pro via some retailers

Thanks for the info , good to know it fluctuates , will keep my eyes peeled for it to go back to 6 or higher 🙂

Thanks. I’d better check John Lewis for iPhones, too

A miserable 2:1. In cash terms, Apple’s interest free credit is possibly worth more depending on how much you value deferred spend.

Back up to 6 now for anyone that’s interested

Will not work on new products!

Never worked on newly released products for me. Usually takes 3-6 months for a product to be added to the eligibility list.
