Will this change your direct debit though? I.e. is the DD dynamic or will it still take the same monthly amount?
It will not change your direct debit. If you top up enough to build up a credit, after a few days you’ll be able to decrease your DD though…
Bulb is a goner. Taken over by Octopus.
I have just topped up our Outfoxthemarket account with Amex to hit my wife’s spending target for her 70,000 introductory bonus.
70,000 for new a platinum? Interesting, i always thought 60,000+5,000 was the max for platinum sign up

Paid £1K to Octopus just the other day. They’ll re-pay you whenever you ask – but beware – they say they’ll refund your advance payment back to your current a/c (ie direct debit) – but in fact they repay it to the card of origin, which is probably not what you need.

Bulb went bust a long time ago (November 2021).

You can always cancel the DD and top up monthly instead. Octopus are pretty good at this and I also use the AMEX to this effect.
Look for companies that process payments as monthly payments (card number and security code is a sign of this), the company I use (bulk negotiated by landlord, so won’t mention as you can’t “sign up”) do that, which is a nice little side thing. Key bit is not directly debits.
Most people own there house on here, and I like my niche situation, Mr X could be looking, soz

Octopus refunds everything you ever paid by DD to the bank account. I have a DD for £2 because it helps with one of my current accounts. The total I’ve ever paid by DD is about £100 (now increasing by £2 each month), so that’s how much they will refund me to bank – but the system appears to forget that they’ve previously refunded me the entire £100.
I add about £300 by credit card every few months and then when the option appears in my account, I request the recommended refund of £100 by bank transfer. So far they’ve done it 10 times. One time the recommended amount of refund was £200, but that ended up on the card I had used to pay.

That’s how it’s meant to happen, ie refund to bank a/c with the direct debit, despite you paying by credit card. Just saying: a couple of weeks ago OE refunded £2500 to my B’s credit card, despite me double checking in the phone call that it would be sent to my bank a/c. Might mess you up with Amex thresholds/ spending requirements. I’d already banked the 50K Avios on my B’s offer, so wasn’t an issue.
Incidentally: these days you can get £500 refunded with a click online, not just £100. Anything over £500 needs a phone call.
