Forums Other Destination advice Argentina in Summer 2024

    Hi folks,

I’m doing my first major avios redemption using Iberia to visit Argentina for 2 weeks next summer.

We have no specifics plans yet apart from flights in and out of EZE. We do know we’d like to do Iguazu (and I’ve saved the thread on this below)

We are 2 adults and a 1 year old. Enjoy history/culture, food, exploring and wandering around cities and beautiful landscapes and views. With a 1 year old in tow, we’d probably want to do max 2 long travel days.

Any one got suggestions, itineraries, must dos etc.?

You are slightly spoilt for choice in Argentina for all the things you like. It’s a vast country (the eighth largest in the world) and has glaciers in the south, desert in the NW and it’s tropical in the NE towards Iguazú, so you probably need to make some decisions rather than try to do too much in a first trip. The food and wine will be good wherever you go. Buenos Aires itself is worth quite a few days. Bariloche is probably one of the most beautiful areas in Argentina, but not in our summer when it’s a ski area and even in the NW it will be quite cold at night – maybe 10C, but up to 20C in the day, and the scenery is spectacular plus Salta, the gateway to that area is an interesting colonial city. I’m not sure about visiting the glaciers in the summer but it’s possibly not ideal with a baby anyway. Córdoba and the surrounding area is interesting but not spectacular like the other areas, more rolling hills, horse country.

Do you mean Argentina’s summer, so our winter? Be aware that just this week, in late spring, the falls are flooded with the walkways closed off to visitors, the lake district is experiencing heavy snow, and outside of summer it’s standard to find much of the trekking in southern Patagonia off limits to all but well-equiped hikers/climbers due to snow and ice on the trails.
