Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Avios earned when booking via travel agent

All my work flights have to be booked via our corporate travel agent. Just realised that I’ve been credited with Avios under the old mikes calculation all year and not based on spend. I thought you still got Avios based on spend if you booked via a third party travel agent?

“Tickets bought after 18 October 2023 where the fare paid isn’t available will continue to collect Avios base on a percentage of how many miles you fly and the cabin you fly in”

So I’m guessing you work for a large firm with negotiated rates and rebates that are not disclosed due to commercial confidentiality. So you earn at the legacy rates.

I’ve still to check it our for myself, but a former colleague tells me that when they book personal BA flights through the travel page on their staff benefits portal (that I still have access to despite leaving the firm 15 years ago), the rates are also calculated on a legacy basis. Those deals are “powered” by a corporate travel agency.

I don’t work for a big company but we do use a big corporate travel agent. Really disappointed to find this out, especially as the travel agent doesn’t generally have prices that are cheaper than booking direct.

Unless you are flying on fairly expensive tickets you are probably earning more avios than you would under the spend based calculations. I think you should probably be happy rather than disappointed.

Just to clarify, when you say prices is that the headline prices or after negotiated corporate rebates?
