Hi all,
I’ve got a 241 that I’m looking to use and had expected to spend 90K each way on the trips I was looking at. I am aware of the Off Peak and Peak difference, but has anything else changed lately?
Looking at routes like JNB I am quoted 180K plus taxes for a return. But when looking at some US destinations today (IAH for example) I am quoted 190K plus taxes. I thought IAH was 90K each way off peak – I have checked several off peak dates and get the same results.
As an aside, I wassnt aware that F was fewer Avios 85K than CW
You pay much higher taxes on F redemptions as they haven’t moved to RFS (yet).
It sounds like you might be mixing peak and off peak dates for IAH. That would explain the 10k avios difference.
SeatSpy and BA both have inaccuracies at the moment in respect of peak/off-peak dates, but BA will quote you the correct price even if the date is labelled wrongly on the booking page.
What are your travel dates?
Thanks – I was mixing off peak and peak dates, but the BA site was showing the peak date as off peak. No screenshot, but its fixed this morning.

Not always – three First seats back from Tokyo popped up this morning, and the pricing offered was:
102000 Avios + £145.77 (with options down to 51000 Avios + £854.77)
In Club World, it was showing as:
100000 Avios + £145.77 (with options down to 37500 Avios + £940.77)
Mind you, that was a straightforward one-way trip from a country which doesn’t have the level of taxes we have in the UK. The calculations would be different from the UK, I expect, and even moreso if you had a Club/First mixed return!
That’s not a typical example though (and you’d need to keep it as a separate booking to stop BA recalculating the surcharges in their favour).
F pricing from JFK, for example, starts at 80k avios plus £813.

Hmm, wonder why the taxes are so high *from* JFK? It seems odd that a flight that’s almost twice the length would be far cheaper.
