Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Avios multi-carrier booking – add sectors later?

  • 69 posts

Apologies if already answered elsewhere but I couldn’t find the answer.

I am looking to do a multi-carrier Avios booking to Asia and possibly Australia. Do I need to book all sectors (up to 8?) at once, or can I book the initial outbound as a starting point then add to it? What about the outbound and return, but then add a further side trip in-between (eg out to Phuket on Qatar, on to KL, back to UK but then add a KL to Seoul return before the return later?

Also wondering if there is any restriction on Qatar different levels of reward seats, eh if I can see it on their website, can it always be added to such a multi carrier booking?

To be on the same booking it needs to be done at the same time.

You can only book flights that are available via BA.

I’ve managed to change (add/remove) sectors to a multi-carrier award, twice, but it was damn-near impossible. Half a dozen calls minimum to find an agent who knew what to do, then an interminable wait for the whole trip (yes, everything) to be repriced, and the risk of the ticketing office coming back with “computer says no”.

Unless my plans change and I’m in danger of cancelling the whole thing I will never again try and modify a multicarrier award that has been priced and ticketed.

I have just about got over my heart attack, (not really!), but suffice to say, be prepared for total frustration. If you do a search you will find my earlier posts with recommendations. I’ve done two journeys and managed to get to Australia,(Business) but not using BA of course for that last segment.
If you are prepared to persevere, then it can be excellent value, but be prepared for possible hassle along the way, and keep calm! ie Leaving Australia via a Domestic connection, flight cancelled, alternative not acceptable to keep on track with the rest of the ticket, and then told ‘You’ll have to call BA in London to sort it.’ ‘What, it’s 3am over there !’
Eventually sorted, without me raising my voice…no point in getting angry, for something that was easily sorted. So much so, I went in search of a box of chocolates for her.
And the best of luck. Let us know how you get on.
