Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Avios only flight to Faro – now on chartered plane

  • 23 posts

Not sure if anyone else booked the avios only flight back in October. We got seats to Faro for the family and got an email this week advising that the plane is now chartered from Danish Air Transport.

Firstly isn’t this just a bit embarrassing for BA – I would have thought that for a flight solely for FF’s they would want to use their own planes?

Secondly anyone happen to have any view about their business cabin ? Can’t imagine it makes much difference for a couple of hours but thought it worth asking.

    Cheers

Seems like a slightly strange choice of carrier even for BA though they were flying for Air France last year

Agree I’d have thought they’d have wanted a BA promotional flight on BA metal , wouldn’t be surprised if it changes back ! But otherwise it’ll be BA standard CE service, seating isn’t much different and BA crew are hardly most consistent so likely no change there 😂

BA will also allow a change onto their metal flight either before or after this one if that is convenient

Aerolopa has nothing for DAT, but seatmaps.com suggests 28-29″ legroom throughout which is similar to BA ET. On BA metal CE rows at the front normally get an extra inch or so of legroom, so hope no one was relying on that!

BTW Flydirect are chartering BACF planes for their holidays to Faro this summer, no avios and no TPs though.

There are additional BACF FAO flights from LCY to position for these charters. BA7029 on Fridays and BA7030 on Sundays.

Beggars can’t be choosers especially with a wet lease. The FT thread on this has a comment that the AY wet leases are ending this month so BA will be under some pressure to find any alternatives they can to avoid cancellations,

The BA leased aircraft policy is

    here

Note no refunds permitted unless the fare rules allow it. Seems a bit off to me especially if it’s on a once a day flight and going the day before or after may not be convenient,

Does seem a very very strange choice of flight to lease; you’d have thought the purpose of an Avios-only flight is (at least partly) for publicity – including photos, and the chance fliers/blogs mentionining it on social media and the like is waaay higher than an average flight, so it’s one of the very few flights where the correct livery etc makes any difference.

I wonder if it’s been done semi-automatically by some aircracft rostering department/algorithm, and when the public relations dept realises and intervenes it may well change again?

They don’t seem to be bothered about generating any publicity over the these avios only flights

Rob menetioned there was noting special on the recent GVA flight he was on. Don’t recall him doing any sort of special posting about the actual flight.

My flight from CHQ to LHR in Oct also shows as DAT. A320 with 29 rows so presumably a bit more space than on BA metal?
