Was just wondering if anyone has tried the above? I imagine the opposite is more common for a switch; however, I don’t quite have the need for the Avios Plus anymore. And I am quite pleased with the credit limit Barclays has given me on my current card.
I have the option to switch to the platinum card on the app. However, I was wondering if anyone has done this previously and knew if, as part of the switch, you were also entitled to the interest-free period on purchases and balance transfers, as if applying externally.
TIA
I have done several product swap with BarclayCard over the years and pretty sure that the offers applicable to new customers are not applicable via product swap (the Avios being an exception, as it is still a newer product and they have a smaller offer for existing customer switches).
Barclaycard do occasionally run customer specific Balance Transfer offers so it is worth keeping an eye on that within the app.
Now having said all that, downgrading to the free Avios card would generally be a better option as even when swapping to Nectar it still gives you a good return compared to non Amex cashback offering. The second option would be to product swap to the Barclaycard Rewards card, that has free Forex spend (no forex fee added and Visa exchange rate applied) and also offer 0.25% cashback.
The platinum has literally no benefit as a product swap, so not sure why anyone would consider that.
