Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Avios points suddenly deducted on BA shopping portal

  • 1 post

Does anyone know what this reason is? I purchased a product through Lakeland on the BA executive shopping portal in October and got my points , then today I saw they deducted the same points. Eg 1,000 avios points completed in October then it shows -1,000 points deducted today in November . Does anyone know why I lost them and is there a customer service contact number ?

This is why people avoid the BA shopping portal! Can’t help with the reason and if legitimate that they shouldn’t have paid under their terms (eg if you used a discount code) or not. But there have been a lot of complaints of them clawing back avios a long time after and with no reason. I would only really use the shopping portal if the shop wasn’t on other cashback sites.

Peoples experiences with this seem to vary greatly. I’ve used it loads with a huge number of different retailers, and only ever had 1 adjustment at a later date – and that was M&S amending a trivial amount like 240 down to 200. The hotel ones can be slow to post but otherwise I’ve found it reliable and accurate.

Disagree. Gave up on it after multiple retailers reclaimed points after approx 9 months. Hotel Chocolate and Majestic Wine were two of the culprits if I remember correctly, IHG just fails to pay.

My experience is that there are certain retailers that will always try to reverse or reduce points awarded through the BA shopping portal (e.g., Argos), sometimes months after points have already long been awarded. Where I do choose to use the BA shopping portal nowadays, it is on the presumption that any Avios received are a bonus and far from guaranteed.

    Exactly this.

We use the BA eStore a lot and don’t have much problem with clawbacks and usually get them reinstated after claiming. The most common reason for clawbacks are using any sort of discount code at checkout or ‘clash of clicks’ so the retailer only pays on the first one. It pays to be careful to follow the terms scrupulously and avoid using blockers, VPNs etc. which can prevent your visit being properly registered.
