MAN-LHR-JFK WTP on a BAH Flight/Hotel Booking. (while the double avios promo was running in August and BAH flights were eligible), so underlying ticket was for 3500×2 and 90 Tier Points.
I upgraded with cash the LHR-JFK leg to J at Manchester check in. It’s posted as 0 Avios and 140 points for the flight itself followed by another line for the upgrade – 5628 for the cash upgrade (469×6…..x2, I don’t know why this has been doubled).
Either way, I seem to have lost out on Avios but Gained in Tier Points, is this right? Shouldn’t I still be getting the 7000 underlying ticket points?
Yes, however your decision on how to proceed depends on whether you prefer the current scenario or the correct one.

Thanks for replying. But I’ve spent time looking into this and this doesn’t seem right. I seem to have lost Avios here and nothing else.

Members of the British Airways Executive Club are eligible for Avios and Tier Points associated with the higher cabin. If these are not credited at the time of the flight you can claim them retrospectively within six months, once you have completed your journey. If you purchase a promotional upgrade from a redemption ticket, you are not eligible for Tier Points in either the original or upgraded cabin. Any promotional upgrades purchased from 18 October 2023 will earn Avios based on the cost of the upgrade.
As well as flyertalk. Not sure why there’s a headforpoints article contradicting this.
I assume you upgraded just one way or was it in both directions? Also did you pay £496 for the upgrade? And have you received any Avios or TP for the return flight? And are uou a blue tier member of BAEC? And have the TP been doubled assuming it was eligible for the double tier point BAH promo
It looks like you’ve been awarded the Avios for the upgrade and it’s been doubled per the double Avios offer you mentioned.
If you haven’t received any other TP or Avios then I agree you should receive the original Avios for the BAH WTP booking plus 90TP for the inbound flight and an extra 140TP for the outbound and 90TP for the inbound flight.

Yes, you are mostly right, and more or less where I’m thinking. Except I wasn’t sure on the double tier points on the additional 50 from the cabin upgrade, but I know there’s a delay in that posting.
My flights from BAH aren’t usually posted as 0 and/or delayed, so I think it’ll be a missing avios claim when it’s all posted. I only returned today, but the outbound stuff posted last week pretty quickly.
Thanks.
I would leave it a few days as you need to see what BA posts for the inbound flight plus you need to wait 14 days for the double Tier Points to post anyway.
I had the exact same situation – correct tier points for the upgraded cabin, 0 Avios + revenue based Avios in a separate line, but only for the cost of AUP. I needed to contact BAEC to sort it out. Took a few weeks, had to chase it once or twice, but it’s now sorted. Apparently AUP messes up distance based Avios calculation for BAH.
