Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Avios rates if booked through work/travel agent

Hi all (assuming anyone is out there listening…..)

I flew buisness to NY with work last week and seemingly got about the correct tier points I was expecting but the avios were miles off. For context I think the cash cost of the return flight was around £7.5k and I received around 6,300 tier points which is believable once duties and surcharges were removed.

At this point I would then assume this base would be the applicable base for the Avios calculation. Given I’m Silver I was then expecting 8x on the the £6,300 base flight cost (so around 50k Avios). Instead I recieved 14k Avios which to me seems incorrect.

Now I know there is some caveat around not earning the same avios rate if you use a travel agent. Given this was booked through work who I’m certain are using one of these work place agents, would that be the reason for the paltry amount of avios? Fwiw, the cash cost the company paid was the same as the list price on BA so its not even the case we were getting a discounted rate as a benefit (unless this happens behind the scenes)

Appreciate any thoughts on this, not sure whether I have any angles to challenge the award from BA or if in fact it is correct

For avios, BA did not have the exact fare as you used a travel agent, so distance based chart was used. Business low is 7k one way.

Cheers Nico, I had read something to this effect which is shame!

If you check the detailed transaction in your account what does it say about the costs of the flight in the part that shows the flight numbers and booking reference?

If there is a £ figure in there then they should be using it to calculate both the TPs and avios.

Some TAs e.g. Amex corporate do have negotiated fares which appear in your portal at the same or very similar to the direct booking cost. But they may have more flexible cancellation policies, additional rebate to your employer or similar. These are negotiated fares so will drop you out of £ based Avios earning which on an expensive ticket makes quite a difference as you see!

Will depend on the corporate travel agent. The past two I’ve used (Concur + Amex GBT, and Navan) both book in a way that means BA can access the fare data, and this is displayed on the Avios statement (under “eligible spend”).
