If you have status with avis car rental and book via the avios / ba executive club site can you still avail of your status benefits or must you book directly with Avis?

It asks you for your Avis preferred number during the booking process these days, so your status is applied and you can see your booking on the Avis app as normal.

So you can still go to the counter and ask for your upgrade and extra driver as a president’s club member and booking through the avios ba executive club makes no difference?

I queried Avis this week about an upcoming booking. Was expecting to be able to add my free additional driver (President’s Club) when booking but it kept on wanting to charge me £45. They have said that this can only be applied when collecting the car – and there will be no change fees on this.

I believe you get a free additional driver in any event when booking an Avis vehicle through Avios / BAEC.

I would really appreciate some advise please.

    1. Can the additional driver be non-spouse who lives in a different country? We are going to Australia as a family and I would like the booking in my husband’s name as he has Platinum card (Avis Preferred as a result) and my sister-in-law (who lives in the USA). Will that be an issue?

    2. Will the Platinum insurance cover all travellers? I believe you don’t need to pay with the Platinum card or is it safer to do so? Avis app not letting me pay now. It is allowing me to add additional drivers (plural) but said fee would be calculated at venue. Is it just one additional driver that is free?

    3. Lastly, I am the main Platinum card holder and my husband is the supplementary, but I have used his card to register him for Avis Preferred and it went through. Will be have full car hire cover or does it have to be the main card holder.

Sorry, I have never hired a car abroad before!
