Hi, anyone been successfully upgraded as a Presidents Club status holder? I understand they will upgrade one class, up to a Class F car.
But I’ve been given conflicting answers by Avis.
One said a yes, a guaranteed upgrade for rentals under 14 days from airports and city centres.
The other said “subject to availability”
I’m booking 2 week rental in US.
Sorry, posting in this section as seemed the closest fit.
I got upgraded from group F (Example Mazda CX-5) to group W (Toyota 4Runner) on a one way rental from Downtown Philly (Convention Centre – very small office) to Boston Logan in July. 10 day rental.
I had got President’s Club on the basis of the Barclaycard Avios Plus MC.
The rules are quite clear on the website.
Single upgrade guaranteed at airport and railway stations. At downtown locations upon availability. Not eligible for vans, luxury, Select Series and Prestige cars, and rentals longer than 14 days.
I should have picked up from the Railway Station to be sure, but I got lucky.
Double upgrade upon availability on weekends.
Rented at SNN last weekend and no upgrade was given even after I asked.
Last month I had the same upgrade as @Alex G at MCO – booked a group F and received a group W. I am Presidents Club through Amex Plat and made the booking via BA.
US don’t recognise UK status.
Just shows as lowest level (Preferred) for them which you can see on your paperwork when you take a car out.
Never had an upgrade in the US with Avis despite being Presidents Club.
Been upgraded as PC at Inverness airport 6 days, Ibiza 6 days and Nice 8 days, all this year. Either one or two categories higher than booked. I also seem to get decent prices with PC however they haven’t given me my of the supposed vouchers I am entitled to, free weekend rental etc, and don’t seem to respond to email chasers so swings and roundabouts…
Interesting. Thanks for feedback everyone.
I had to request CS to manually add PC to my booking, as someone above noted, it only showed Preferred. I only learned about by chance when another CS rep mentioned I was not PC status – one of those times when you walk the rep through their job haha
Those upgrades of multiple classes, and some not, seems there is a lottery element to it.

I wonder if this is only for Amex UK linked status upgrades as I Have my president Club via MasterCard World Elite (HSBC) and it was actually processed from the US.
I was upgraded from a large SUV to a luxury SUV in Boise, Idaho earlier in the year at a time when rental prices were sky high. I ended up with a fabulous GMC Yukon for a ski trip.
And I had a double upgrade from something small and sensible (I can’t remember the exact class) to an automatic Mercedes estate in Venice this July. That upgrade made a huge difference as I was travelling to the Alps with two bike boxes; the extra power on the mountain passes plus the extra space made a tedious journey into a pleasure.
I didn’t get upgraded in Naxos, but, to be fair, there was probably no suitable upgrade available on a small Greek island as I’d booked a convertible. And I didn’t get upgraded in Tenerife when I booked through BA Holidays to get the extra tier points, although I did get the rental to count toward my status.
So, yes, upgrades usually apply in my experience when you book direct unless you’re in a remote outpost.
Heard back from Avis….the upgrade is to Class F, but if no Class F cars are available they bump you to the class after F, and so on.

This. I have had Presidents’ Club upgrades in the US, but my membership is organic and not through AmEx.
I complained about not getting an upgrade at SNN and I’v been promised a 27 euro refund as compensation.
So I’ve looked at the benefits of Avis PC.
One of them states: “Voucher for a free weekend rental**”** Valid for a three-day rental for a mid-size car in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France (excl. Corsica), Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy (excl. Sardinia), Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, South Africa and Turkey. This includes fees, mandatory cover and taxes. Fuel, extra services and airport surcharges are not included. For Avis Preferred cardholders, this is available after your third rental.
Anyone know how you go about obtaining this voucher?
Thanks.Anyone know how you go about obtaining this voucher?
Amex web page seems to contradict those Avis T&Cs
See:
https://www.americanexpress.com/en-gb/benefits/travel/cars/the-platinum-card/avis-presidents-club/
“… Voucher for a free weekend after (3) rentals per loyalty year (12 months from the date CM signs up for loyalty program)”
Maybe doesn’t apply when the Presidents Club status came from a Platinum card?Would be great to be proved otherwise though – the Avis T&Cs you quote definitely suggest only the Preferred levels need 3 prior rentals!
Let us know how you get on 🙂My Avis PC came from Barclays Avios MC, not Amex.
I have no idea how to obtain that voucher.I hate phoning call centres as I find standards/quality/knowledge have dropped to shocking levels across many organisations CS teams.

Try contacting them on Twitter, this has worked for me for other issues.
You need to qualify for the vouchers. They don’t come automatically with a status upgrade.
I’ve been told by avis CS can only be used for the weekend …i.e you can’t use it for 2 days off a week long booking.

Which makes sense, but yet there isn’t anything I can see that states that.
I booked the cheapest car and was upgraded 3 classes at JNB last month.
Upgrades, and rarely, even the fact of getting a car, is *always* subject to availability, with any car hire firm.
Booking and paying or status, just sets the pecking order for what’s available.
But if they run out, they run out.
And the t’s and c’s always cover them for this.
“Dear Mr 100,
Thank you for contacting Avis regarding your Avis Preferred account.
The free weekend voucher is received once per membership year after completion of third rental.”“Dear Mr 100,

That’s not what your website says. Give me my damn upgrade voucher!”The app does say free weekend voucher, after 3rd rental.
That’s not what your website says.
Very clearly does here:
https://www.avis.co.uk/your-avis/avis-loyaltyScroll down and all 3 membership tiers explicitly state the same thing
– Weekend voucher* – received once per membership after completion of third rental* Fuel, extra services and airport surcharges are not included.
