Just for info, I’ve just had confirmation from AVIS that “DVLA check code is not needed” for rental in the USA.

I booked Avis cars in the US through the BA shopping portal for points and a free additional driver. In case you didn’t know!

I’ve rented with Avis in many places in USA & EU.

Never once been asked for the DVLA check code.

If you have Costco membership try their car rental too. Free additional driver and for some dates/locations they’ve been considerably cheaper than Carhireba.com

Also I’ve never been asked for the DVLA code on any rental from any agency in the world. Haven’t even bothered getting one for the past few years.

make sure you join their preferred rewards program for free before picking up. it’s a breeze then, 5mins at separate counter and bosh you’re away

I only checked as the AVIS website still says it is required. Yes, I booked through BA and got the points. 😉

They wouldn’t have a clue what it was. In UK Europcar always want one, National have never mentioned it.
