Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Award flight booking on Qatar

  • 4 posts

Hi, I am wanting to book an award flight with Avios on qatarairways.com. The cost is 350k Avios and I have a BA household account with my wife with enough Avios between us. Is it possible to book on qatarairways.com even though neither of us have 350k individually but we do in our BA household account?

I believe you need to create a Family Account which is similar to the BA HHA.

Qatar family account works quite different to the BA one. You can nominate up to nine family members and the result was just that they would consider your family member when they earning points

You seems to imply that Avios cannot be shared among family members. If that is the case what’s the purpose of having one ?

That’s my understanding too when I looked into it previously. Basically the avios earned by the family members are credited to a single/main account. I guess the benefit is that you can “steal” all the avios for yourself. Obviously only during the time they’re in the family account, doesn’t apply retrospectively.

I think the costs are now the same for Qatar reward flight whether you book them on BA or on Qatar, in which case just book them through BA using your household account.

Qatar are quoting 360k Avios and BA are quoting 452k Avios for exactly the same flights. I’ve called BA and they have confirmed that 452k is accurate as far as they’re concerned. Although, consulting the partner airline Avios flight costs, I can’t see how MAN-DOH-AKL return can even be 452k Avios.

I could book with BA using my household account but would rather not be overcharged by 92k Avios.
